    Dive Truck Almost Painted

    The Dive Truck is looking ready for paint. After its completed it will come home for wiring and inside finish work. Thank you to Hudson Body for all the great work.

    Dive Team Responds to Jersey City

    At 21:30 hours the Oradell Dive Team was dispatched to Jersey City to assist in the search and recovery of a Jersey City Police vehicle that left the roadway. The Team was on-scene in staging with Wallington and Lyndhurst Dive Teams. Oradell was released from staging at 23:47 without entering the water. Read more from the Bergen Record Click Here.

    Oradell units stood by today for a NJ State Police Helicpoter landing. The chopper was used in a police investigation.

    3 MORE - AFTER A LONG NIGHT

    After very little sleep, Oradell units went to an early morning activated alarm, followed some time later by an odor of natural gas at a residence. To kickoff the evening units responded to another residence for an odor of natural gas.

    Oradell Works Midnight Shift in Bergenfield

    At approximately 20:00hrs Oradell Tower 21 and Chiefs were dispatched to Bergenfield to stand-by at their Alert Firehouse, while extensive operations continued at an earlier apartment explosion. While in quarters, Tower 21 and Car 201 responded to an activated fire alarm and shortly after they were relocated to the scene of the explosion. The Tower Company operated master streams and assisted in recovery efforts. At 05:15 Oradell units were released. While returning to the boro, the Tower responded to an activated fire alarm in River Edge.

    First Storm of the Season

    Oradell got its first real taste of winter today as heavy snow covered the area. Fire department members prepared for the storm by running and testing their gas powered equipment and generators that might be called upon in case of an emergency.

    The Real 300

    Units turned out for Alarm # 300 today on Fletcher Ave. The department already set a record this year responding to the most calls ever in a single "non-hurricane" year.

    Dive Truck out for paint

    The Dive truck was taken to Hudson Body in Jersey City today. They will be repairing the roof, body and painting the truck.

    New Command Vehicle

    The new Chevy Tahoe command vehicle is looking good and almost ready for delivery. The vehicle is being wired by Odyssey Auto and will be in service soon.

    Going Old Fashion

    Tower 21 responded earier this morning for a report of a cat stuck in a tree. Once on scene, members attempted to rescue the cat, however it only climbed higher.

    Wallington Holiday Parade

    Members kicked off the holiday season by attending Wallington's Holiday Parade Saturday night. Members decorated several pieces of apparatus including a float. Oradell took home 2nd Place for "Best Appearing Float" and a good time was had by all.

    Happy Thanksgiving ... Be Safe

    The officers and firefighters of the Oradell Fire Department would like to wish all of our residents a safe and Happy Thanksgiving!

    Thanksgiving Day Fire Information

    • Thanksgiving Day fires in residential structures cause more property damage and claim more lives than residential structure fires on other days. Surprisingly, fire injuries in residences decrease on Thanskgiving Day.
    • Cooking is by far the leading cause of residential structure fires on Thanksgiving Day (42%), nearly double that of a normal day.
    • The leading factor in the ignition of residential cooking fires is food left unattended.

    Motor Vehicle Crash

    At 11:48 Squad 22 and Engine 24 responded for a 2 car crash with injuries on Kinderkamack Road. Squad 22 stretched an 1"3/4 line as a precaution while the rest of the crews disconnected the batteries, controlled fluid spills and assisted with EMS. Units were on scene about 20 minutes.

    Training Continues....On Oradell Ave.

    Members trained last night in a house on Oradell Ave. which is scheduled to be knocked down. Members practiced stretching dry hose lines, performing searches, and attacking basement fires. Further training is also scheduled to take place in the next few days.

    Like Father Like Son

    At 13:30hrs, Squad 22 and Engine 24 responded to a vehicle leaking gasoline under an attached covered parking area. The gasoline leak was was stopped by Stan Kufel with the assistance of his son Joe Kufel, the newest addition to Oradell's Bravest! Units were on scene for approximately a half hour.

    New Command Vehicle Delivered

    The New Chief's Command Vehicle, a 2006 Chevy Tahoe Special Service Package, arrived early this morning from Whiteside Fleet and Commercial Vehicles, St. Clairsville, OH. The Command Vehicle will be going out to Odyssey Automotive Specialty, Inc for conversion this week. We expect to have the New Chief's Command Vehicle back in early December for service to the Oradell Community.

    OFD Divers Discover ALF History

    In late August, Firefighters Fahey #13, Mormino Jr. #47, Zuendt #52, and Lomoriello #11, successfully completed their certification in open water diving. They will soon be continuing their training for underwater rescue and are all pictured below during their open water practical in a submerged American LaFrance Fire Engine at an approximate depth of 30 feet.

    Dressed To Impress - MVC

    Shortly after being placed out of service for their Inspection Dinner, Squad 22 responded to the intersection of Oradell Ave. and Kinderkamack Rd. for a report of a motor vehicle crash by orders of the Chief. The Squad Co. disconnected the battery and assisted the police at the scene. River Edge Engine 13 stood by at OFD HQ in case additional assistance was needed at the scene. Units were up shortly after.

    Annual Inspection and Dinner

    Tonight the Officers and Members of the OFD will meet the Mayor and Council for the Annual Inspection of the Fire Department. The council will review the OFD troops, equipment and facilities followed by dinner. Although we don’t have a 14 story ladder truck we do have other apparatus for them to see. Pictures to follow.

    CHANGE YOUR CLOCKS - CHANGE YOUR BATTERIES - THIS WEEKEND

    Remember that when you change your clocks back this weekend your should also replace all of your smoke detector batteries with new ones.

    The Facts:

    • Missing or dead batteries are the main reasons smoke alarms do not sound in response to a fire.
    • More than 77 million smoke alarms across the country are outdated.
    • A home fire doubles in size every 30 seconds.
    • Your family's chances of surviving a home fire DOUBLE when there are working smoke alarms in the home.

    Remember: Use Candles with Care

    At 05:19 hrs units responded to an activated fire alarm on Ridgewood Ave. Prior to their arrival, units were advised that this was caused by a candle that had debris burning in it and the fire was out. Please remember to use Candles With Care

    High Rise Operations Training

    Department members trained last night at the old Sony building at 680 Kinderkamack Rd on High Rise Operations. Members performed searches in large areas and also drilled on stretching hose in large areas from the standpipe connections found in the stairwell.

    Smell of Smoke at OPD

    Units responded to an early morning call at Oradell Police Headquarters for a smell of something burning. Luckily everything was fine.

    1 Engine to Paramus

    At 10:45 hrs, Engine 24 was dispatched to Paramus for a standby while Paramus units operated at an overturned tanker at Ridgewood Ave. and Rt. 17. Oradell stood by about 1 hour with no runs.

    The Firehouse is Back!

    After many months of continued construction in the south bay, the floor is finally complete and all apparatus and equipment has returned to its proper home. Finally the floor is dry and there are no footprints.

    Car -vs- Pole

    At 23:30hrs, Squad 22 & Engine 23 responded to a single vehicle motor vehicle crash on Oradell Ave. near Bergen Catholic. Units from the Squad Company disconnected the battery and applied speedy dry to absorb the fluids on the road. Units were up with in 20 min.

    Fire Prevention Week 2005

    Today kicks off our Fire Prevention Week activities! On Tuesday and Wednesday, fire department members will visit local schools to conduct fire drills and give presentations to the student on fire prevention and safety. On Friday from 7-9pm, the fire department will host its annual open house. Stop by for fire prevention information, demonstrations, and to view our apparatus and equipment.

    Asst. Chief Burns - Ties The Knot

    Congratulations to Asst. Chief Burns and FF K. Willemann who were married today, a marriage made in Oradell Fire Department History. Pictures and a FULL Story will follow soon, if we are lucky.

    MVC with Fuel Leak

    At 16:45 hours Squad 22 and Engine 24 were dispatched to the scene of a motor vehicle crash with a fuel leak. Upon arrival, members of the Squad applied Speedy Dry under the leaking vehicle, applied a blanket of foam on the engine, and disconnected the battery. 1 line was also stretched as a protection line. Units were up within 45 min.

    Tower 21 called to cover Paramus Truck 1

    At 21:07 Oradell Tower 21 was dispatched to cover Paramus Truck 1 while it was operating at a fire in the Bergen Mall. Tower 21 and Car 201 stood by at Paramus Co#1 with Paramus Engine 1 for about 40 minutes before being released.

    Octoberfest Fireworks Standby

    To mark the start of October Fest in Oradell a fireworks show was presented at Memorial Field. In order to keep the scene safe and secure numerous resources were called in. Units from the Oradell FD, River Edge FD, New Milford FD, & Haworth FD maintained the perimeter and provided fire watch coverage around the woods and neighboring homes.

    Leaking Propane Tank

    12:45hrs - A verbal alarm was transmitted by C-201B for a leaking propane tank on Howard Ct. East. E-23 stretched 1 1-3/4" attack line, bled the tank, and dissipated the fumes. Units operated on scene for about 45min.

    Brake Fire

    At 11:42 units were dispatched for a reported brake fire on a truck. Engine 23 and 24 responded. Upon arrival of Engine 23 the fire was out. Engine 23 stretched a booster line and cooled the tire down before taking up; units were on scene a few minutes.

    Tower 21 Mutual Aid to Paramus CO#1

    At 10:30 hours Tower 21 was dispatched to CO#1 Paramus to stand-by. Paramus units were operating at a fire on Essex Rd. Tower 21 stood-by until 12:20, with no runs, hits or errors to report.

    The Squad Has Another Qualified Driver!

    Firefighter B. Bonte was qualified in July on Squad 22. Due to an administrative/technical error (Capt. Kahill), this information was not made public until now.

    Wildwood or Bust!

    Members and delegates of the OFD along with many other fire departments from across NJ descended on Wildwood, NJ this weekend for the annual NJ Firemen's Convention. Pictured here are some of Oradell's bravest wearing their new favorite t-shirts!

    Congrats and Welcome to the Team!

    Congratulations are an order for Firefighters Joe Lomoriello, Tom Fahey, Frank Mormino Jr, and Alex Zuendt who have recently completed the NAUI Open Water I Class. This qualifies them as SCUBA Divers and makes them the newest additions to the OFD Dive Rescue Team! Great work guys!

    HELP THOSE THAT ARE HELPING OTHERS

    Local PBA 206 which Oradell Police are members of, are sponsoring a Relief Effort for Emergency Service Workers affected by Katrina.     SCHOOL IS OPEN

    School started today in Oradell and other communities. ALL fire calls at the schools during school hours and when they are occupied at night will be dispatched Tri-Boro Alarms. Tri-Boro Alarms consist of the initial response of 4 Units from Oradell FD, 4 Units from New Milford FD, and 4 Units from River Edge FD. A Tri-Boro alarm will also bring at least 1 ambulance from New Milford and 1 ambulance from River Edge. USE CAUTION WHEN RESPONDING.

    SCUBA Test Time

    The 5 tad poles that are taking the Open Water One class, will take their final test tonight. Then they will be required to do 4 open dives in a quarry in Pennsylvania. After all that they can play in the local muddy, black water with the rest of the team. Doesn't that sound nice?

    SCUBA: Work Continues...

    As the newest members of the department SCUBA continued with their training at the Oradell Swim Club, work continued on the newest member of the fleet: SCUBA-26. Mock-ups are currently being constructed inside the new vehicle to demonstrate and evaluate the future locations of equipment.

    Department Drill

    The members had their hands full with a large donated house for the monthly drill. The scenario was a daytime fire with victims trapped. One Engine from New Milford was used for water supply. Thanks to Brett Dzadik for the photos

    Mutual Aid to River Edge

    At 8:26am River Edge Chief 102 (Weismann) called for an Engine from Oradell for a working fire on Millbrook Ave. REFD was responding to an automatic alarm when Chief 102 pulled up and reported smoke showing. REFD Truck 11, Engine 14 responded along with Rescue 16 later on. Units reported a small fire in the kitchen, with a quick knock down. Oradell Engine 23 and Chief 20 (Gangemi) responded.

    Propane Leak - Tri-Boro Drill

    E-23 and C-201 particpated in a Tri-Boro drill this morning at the River Edge Swim Club.

    Apartment Fire

    At 10:43 Units were dispatched for a fire in an Apartment on Center Street. Upon arrival Police units reported smoke showing. Car 201 (Burns) arrived and ordered first due Squad 22 to hit the hydrant. Tower 21 arrived second and took the front of the building. A FAST Team from New Milford was called and mutual aid from River Edge for a ladder truck. EMS was provided by New Milford with 2 rigs and a support unit. Companies reported the fire was out upon arrival and reported it to be a flash fire from chemicals being put down on a wood floor. Units operated for about 1 1/2 hours.

    FAST Team to Drill in New Milford

    T-21 responded to a drill in New Milford to act as the FAST Team. The unit was activated when a missing firefighter was simulated. The sole purpose of a FAST Team is to search for and rescue firefighters when they become trapped or are reported missing. All members of 21 went to work at the drill, and got a good workout.

    Car 201 says good-bye in style

    The 1989 Chevy that served as Car 20 and then Car 201 has finally taken its last ride. The new Car 20 is expected soon and then the current Tahoe will be passed down to 201.

    Almost a Car Fire

    The wheels on this older Benz didn't help the new owner while he was trying to get it home. The wheel locked up and started to smoke. Oradell Chief 201 and Engine 23 responded, no action was needed.

    Wires Down Sets Fire to House

    At 18:20 hours members were notified for a storm stand by. Shortly after, units were dispatched to multiple activated fire alarms and reports of wires down around town. E-23 and C-20 made their intitial response to the intersection of Prospect Ave. and Cooper Ave. where muliple wires were burning in the street and in trees. While waiting for Public Service, members of the engine company found that the fire had traveled up the live wire to the house and appears to be in the attic. E-23 forced entry to the house and checked for fire conditions in the attic. There was no extension and units soaked down all areas once power had been shutoff by Public Service.     United Water Donation

    Outside Rubbish Fire Against A Garage

    At 18:00 Oradell units were dispatched for smoke coming from a garage on Lotus Avenue. Capt. Kahill (202) responded and reported a working fire on the outside rear of the garage. Engine 23 soft suctioned the hydrant across the street and stretched 1 attack line. Tower 21 and Squad 22 responded and assisted with overhaul. Units operated for about 45 minutes.

    Training All The Time

    Capt. Kahill, Lt. Nywening and Lt. Capicchioni of Oradell along with Lt. Lodato and FF. Janssens of Bergenfield attended the Firehouse Expo in Baltimore this past week. They were able to attend several informational training programs during the morning and spend some time looking at equipment in the afternoon.

    Wicked Wednesday

    Shortly after returning from a brush fire on Elliot Court, units were placed on stand-by for the approaching storm. Once the rain and heavy winds ceased, E-23, E-24, SQ-22, C-20, & C-201 responded to multiple calls around town for trees and wires down. E-23 checked several homes that had wires down using the Thermal Imageing Camera to make sure that there were no electical related problems that might cause a fire.

    Car Fires and Roof Vents

    Tonight your volunteer members drilled at a donated house on Park Place to practice roof vents and floor vents. By cutting holes in the roof at a fire, allows for the hot gasses to escape the structure. Other members practiced extinguishing car fires at the Tri-Boro Training Facility.     Tower 21 mutual aid to Paramus

    At 12:56 Oradell Tower 21 was dispatched to respond to Paramus CO#1 and stand by. Paramus units were operating at a second alarm in the Garden State Plaza Mall. Tower 21 stood by about 45 minutes.

    VEHICLE CRASH WITH A WIRE DOWN

    At 8:20 hours OFD units turned out for call #2 for the day. Chief 20, 201 and Squad 22 responded to a Motor Vehicle Crash with injuries and a wire down on Kinderkamack Road. EMS from New Milford and Paramedics from Pascack Valley Hospital operated also. Units operated for about an hour.

    Hot , Hazy, and Humid x 5

    OFD units returning from False Alarm #2 for the day, got called to Graphic Blvd and Linden in New Milford. Oradell Engine 23 responded and stood by while NMFD and PSE&G worked on a large gas leak in the rear yard of a home on Berkley Street. Engine 23 was only on scene a short while when NMFD was toned out for a fire alarm on Morris Lane. Engine 23 responded with NMFD units and once completed - made it home. At 16:47 River Edge toned a out a Tri-boro alarm for the Senior Residence, 21 Truck and Car 20 responded. Tri-boro units were returned while responding.

    Reported Van Fire

    OFD units were toned out a for a van fire today. Chief 20, Engine 23 and Squad 22 responded. Upon arrival OFD units were greeted by a familiar face - Capt. Boselli of New Milford. The fire was contained to a vacuum dust bag in the van. OFD only operated a few minutes.

    Nice day for a boat ride

    Taking advantage of some nice weather recently, the members had both Marine 1 and 2 out for a run. FF Madden is waving good bye from the Boston Whaler, he was nervous with Lt. Capicchioni driving. In case you’re wondering - we didn't catch anything and Madden made it back.

    Welcome Back E-24! and Thanks Digital Voice Network!

    Tonight members repacked hose on E-24 and welcomed the engine back into service after spending a good amount of time in the shops for maintenance. E-24 was welcomed back into the fleet with a new hose bed tarp!

    In other news, progress continues on SCUBA-26, the new dive rescue truck. Special thanks to Digital Voice Network a local business of Oradell for their generous donation towards the new dive truck! In the Photo from left to right - Capt.     MVA with multiple injuries

    At 17:09 Oradell units responded to a 2 car crash with multiple injuries. Oradell Chief 20 (Gangemi), Squad 22 and eventually Engine 23 responded. Oradell units disconnected the batteries and controlled fluid spills from both vehicles. Oradell units were released around 18:00 once all patients were packaged and loaded by New Milford, River Edge and Bergenfield EMS.

    The Hits Keep on Coming (5 for the Day)

    21:30hrs - Oradell units responded to an alarm on Reis Ave. for a reported problem with the electrical system. Units searched the home and found a shorted out attic fan. The homeowners were notified and units were clear shortly after.

    The Busy Days Continues...Smell of Smoke

    18:55hrs - A busy day continues in Oradell as units responded to Hemlock Drive for a reported smell of smoke in the house. E-23 and TL-21 checked the house with the gas meter and Thermal Imaging Camera with negative results.

    Lighting Strike

    At 1509 Oradell units were dispatched to a Grove St. address for a lighting strike and smoke condition in the house. Upon arrival Car 201 (Burns) told Engine 23 to soft suction the hydrant and stretch 1 attack line. Companies entered the house and found a burned outlet in a second floor bedroom, with no extension. Tower 21 and Squad 22 checked the rest of the house and 1 house to the north. All units operated for about 45 minutes.

    2 Primarys Down and Dancing

    Oradell units were dispatched at 13:29 for wires down and burning on Oradell Ave. Oradell Engine 23 and Squad 22 stood by until PSE&G arrived and made the wires safe. Engine 23 then moved in to flood the bubbling ground. Units were on scene about 1 hour with Oradell Ave. closed.

    Propane Leak

    At 11:58 Oradell units were dispatched to an Oakley Pl. address for a propane tank leaking. Oradell Engine 23 stretched an attack line and opened the tank up to bleed off the excess propane. Oradell Tower 21 and Squad 22 assisted. Units were on scene about 45 minutes.

    Outside Rubbish Against the House

    At 16:04 Oradell units responded to a rubbish fire on Glen Side Ct. Upon arrival Car 201 (Burns) located a small fire against the side of the house. Oradell Engine 23 took the hydrant and stretched 1 line for attack. Oradell Tower 21 and Squad 22 did forcible entry, ventilation, overhaul and searched the inside for extension. No one was home at the time of the fire. All units were clear at 16:50

    House Fire - River Edge

    Oradell Car 20, Car 201, Tower 21 and Engine 23 responded to River Edge today for a well involved house fire. River Edge companies removed one victim from the house - condition unknown at this time. Other mutual aid was called from New Milford,Paramus, Maywood and Fairlawn to the scene. Oradell units went to work along with the other mutual aid. Emerson and Haworth were called to cover Oradell and River Edge from OFD HQ.     Three At the Same Time and Everyone Goes !

    Oradell units turned out this morning for a Fire Alarm at River Dell High School. Units at River Dell reported a pull station / false alarm which is still under investigation. While at River Dell, OPD reported a Fire Alarm on Martin Ave. and another on Oxford Circle. Car 201 (Burns) had River Edge dispatched to Martin Ave. and Paramus to Oxford Circle. Units on Martin Ave. then reported a smoke condition in the house and requested New Milford for an Engine and Truck. Car 20 (Gangemi) arrived on scene (on Martin) and had Paramus respond with Tower 1. The total response for Martin Ave.: Oradell, River Edge, New Milford and Paramus. The cause was a self cleaning oven left on with no one home. There will be a test on all of this later.

    Ex-Chief finds long lost twin brother

    The OFD had it's monthly drill and invited some friends from Westwood. To our surprise Ex-Chief Kufel found his long lost twin brother Billy Quinn from Westwood FD. Yes they both need a shave and haircut.

    Truck dontated for The SCUBA Team

    The Bergen County Special Services School District donated a 1993 Chevy/Utilimaster mobile classroom to the Oradell FD. The vehicle will be converted for use as a SCUBA truck by the OFD members. After taking delivery today, the members waisted no time getting to work.

    Motor Vehicle Crash - No Injuries

    18:20 hrs - Oradell units were dispatched to a motor vehicle crash on Oradell Ave at Grove St. Upon arrival, units found 2 vehicles involved, disconnected the batteries and spread Speedy Dry over the anti-freeze and oil that had leaked. Squad 22, Engine 23, and Chief 201 operated on scene for approximately 25 minutes.

    Aerosol Can Sparks Fire

    08:00hrs - Reported house fire on Woodland Ave. Chief 20 and Chief 201 arrived on scene to find a thick smoke condition in the kitchen and advises Engine 23 to stretch in from the hydrant. Engine 23's crew removed a dish washer from under the sink while Tower 21's crew checked the walls with the Thermal Imaging Camera. Crews found a can of air freshener under the sink that may have come in contact with an electrical wire and water. A determination was made that the fire was caused by improperly abandoned wire under the sink.

    Assist with a Lift

    Oradell FD units were requested to the local nursing home today to assist with a lift. Oradell PD, Valley Hospital Paramedics and BLS from New Milford were on scene with a 450 pound patient. Oradell Fire units modified the patient’s bed and loaded it into the ambulance for transport. Fire units followed the rig to the hospital and assisted with unloading. REMEMBER – Lift with the legs.

    Oradell Healthcare - Dryer Fire

    9:30 hours an automatic Tri-Boro Alarm was sounded for Oradell Healthcare. While calling in-service, units from all three town were advised of a fire in the 1st floor laundry room. Oradell Engine 23 stretched in from the hydrant and took 1 attack line in. The Fire was in a dryer with some articles on fire as well. Oradell PD units knocked the bulk of the fire prior to the FD entering the building. Oradell units with assistance from River Edge and New Milford overhauled, vented and then took up.

    Oradell Engine 24, Utility 25 and the Hi-Ex FOAM Unit found another wetdown this weekend. Haworth celebrated their new ladder truck and as always the FOAM was the best part. Oradell truly is HOME OF THE FOAM. Where will we pop up next ???

    Members attended the NY/NJ Firemen's Parade in Emerson today where they took home 3 trophies:

    Unit Citation Award

    The Oradell FD SCUBA Team along with Wallington and Lyndhurst SCUBA Teams will receive a unit citiation award, for thier response to Newark, NJ in October of 2004. The award will be given by The NY/NJ Firemen's Assoc on Friday, June 3rd. All 3 teams work together along with Oakland and Mahwah to provide SCUBA support to all of Bergen County.

    Fire Prevention Detail at K-6 School

    Members of the OFD worked with the 1st and 2nd grades at the Oradell Public School Today. The Fire Prevention Safety House was used to teach the children how to crawl low in smoke.

    NY/NJ Parade Update

    The NY/NJ Fire Parade is June 4th in Emerson this year. New information reports 38 towns will be attending. Work on Engine 23 and Old Moe continues and they look great. More info with the OFD cheering section will be posted soon.

    3rd Alarm Fire in Paramus

    22:31hrs - C-201, U-25 (Staffed by 202), E-24, and TL-21 responded as the 2nd and 3rd Alarm assigments to a working fire at the Paramus Park Mall in Paramus. TL-21 assisted with roof ventilation working with Paramus Chief 40 (Chief Sheehan) while E-24 stoodby as the FAST team.

    The Parade is Coming!

    Members continue to work hard in order to get E-23 and Old Moe in shape for the upcoming NY/NJ Firemen's Parade. Units removed and repacked over 3,200 feet of hose in order to get that perfect parade pack.

    Units Respond Back to Back

    21:30hrs - Units responded to a smell of smoke on Blauvelt Ave. After a thorough investigation of the structure with the thermal imaging camera, the outside perimeter, and nearby homes, the source was unfounded.

    Shortly after returning to quarters, units were dispatched to Howard Court East for a report of something burning in the structure reported by a walk-in to headquarters. Another comprehensive investigation of the structure found the cause to be unfounded.

    C-20, C-201, E-24, TL-21, and SQ-22 operated on both scenes.

    Two for Two

    Oradell Tower 21 and Engine 24 responded to New Milford twice today for Tri-Boro fire alarms at two different locations. Oradell Tower 21 was the 1st due truck both times and assisted with the investigations.

    Still Busy - Linseed Soaked Rag Causes Fire

    At 14:02hrs. Car 20, Car 201, Engine 23, and Tower 21 responded to Pyle Street on a reported fire. Upon arrival units found an outside fire next to the house caused by linseed oil rags with no extension into the house. New Milford FD responded as a FAST Team.

     
     


    April 25th, 2005
    At 01:10hrs, Oradell units responded to a house on Cordes Court on a smell of smoke. Car 201, Engine 23, Engine 24 and Tower 21 responded. Members from 23 and 21 located a haze and electrical odor in the house. The source was traced to an outlet and extension cord behind a fish tank. Units operated for about 1 hour.

    At 16:43 Oradell Car 20, Car 201 and Tower 21 responded on a mutual aid call to the United Water Plant in Haworth. Haworth Chief 151 (Chief Kiel) upon arrival found smoke in the building and a strong electrical odor. Haworth units responded along with New Milford Engine 32 and Demarest Engine 461. Oradell Tower 21 entered the building with Haworth Ladder 169 and conducted the investigation. Units located a problem with the HVAC system. Oradell units operated for just over 1 hour.

    The softball team suffered its first loss this season. The team lost 12 to 10 against Wyckoff. Coach Moretti stated "I told you so Alex."


    April 22nd, 2005
    07:40hrs - Car 20, Car 201, Tower Ladder 21 and Engine 23 responded to River Edge for a working structure fire in a garden apartment on Midland Ave next to Dunkin Donuts. Engine 24 and Squad 22 responded later as well. Companies from Tower 21 vented the roof while Engine 23 stretched another attack line from River Edge Engine 13. Engine 23 entered the fire apartment with Engine 13's crew and continued fire attack. Engine 24's crew worked with the Tower to open the outside walls by the fire apartment. Oradell units operated for about 2.5 hours.

    Fire department units responded to a reported stove problem on Lakeview Drive. Upon further investigation, units found fire behind the oven from a burned out electrical outlet which was extinguished. Companies found no extension. C-201, E-23, TL-21, & SQ-22 operated on scene for about 45 minutes.

    The Softball team took home win #2 on Sunday against Paramus. Coach Moretti stated "its still too early to get excited." Hey Coach we agree, stay out of trouble.

    Roll Over

    Oradell FD responded to Oradell Avenue and Prospect Avenue for a 2 car crash with an overturn. Car 20, Car 201, Squad 22, Engine 23 and 24 responded for a single person trapped in the vehicle. Squad 22 stabilized the vehicle and removed one door. Both vehicles were made safe. Squad 22 stood by while the car was picked up. ALS and BLS repsonded and transported 2 persons.

    Tower Power

    Oradell FD, Waldwick FD and Hillsdale FD welcomed Emerson FD today as the newest American LaFrance Tower Ladder in Bergen County. Emerson's Tower is the first 100FT truck in NJ. The other 3 units in the picture are 93FT models. Campbell Supply who is the local ALF dealer set up the photo shoot. Oradell's "Old Moe" (1928 ALF pumper) stopped by for a photo as well.

    The softball team played their first game against Allendale and took home a victory. Coach Moretti says "Don't get your hopes up, its still early in the season!"

    11:25hrs - Fire department units responded to a a reported structure fire on Maple Ave. Smoke was showing upon arrival of the first units and heavy fire was found on the first floor. Car 20 (Chief Gangemi) and Car 201 (Asst Chief Burns) arrived about the same time and established command and operations. Oradell Engine 23, Tower 21, Squad 22 and Engine 24 all responded and were put to work. Mutual aid from New Milford, River Edge and Emerson responded to the scene, while Paramus and Haworth stood by in OFD HQ.

    Practice All The Time

    THANK YOU to Capt. Marc Fedorchak of the Westwood Fire Dept. who invited us to drill with Westwood and Hillsdale on a donated house. Oradell crews were instructed on search, hose advance, ladders and reduced profile. Oradell Tower 21 and Car 20 attended and got a full workout. Thank you to Pete and Jimmy for sharing their knowledge and experience, stay safe.

    We Came Close

    After a few inches of rain, the Hackensack River was looking a little full. We came close to flooding on New Milford Avenue. Not everyone in NJ was so lucky from this storm, Oakland and Wayne to name a few had their hands full.

    Weather - Weather - Weather

    With heavy rains and high winds, a large tree came down on a house on Birchtree Lane. Oradell units were requested by the PD to make the house safe for the night. Oradell Car 20, Car 201, Engine 23, Engine 24 and Tower 21 operated for about an hour. Units saw cut a large limb and made the house weather tight for the night.

    200 Club gives Valor Award

    The Oradell Fire Department Water Rescue Unit was recognized by the Bergen County 200 Club. Oradell along with Wallington and Lyndhurst responded to Newark, N.J. in October 2004 for a car in the Passaic River. All three Water Rescue Teams were awarded the John R. Rinaldi Special Recognition Award for Outstanding Service.

    Water Water Everywhere And Not A Drop To Drink

    The OFD stayed inside this month for its monthly drill because of the heavy rain. The members learned basic first aid related to motor vehicle accidents and worked with some extrication tools. While the qualified drivers did some review on the new changes in the driver training program.

    Another Oven

    The OFD turned out for another reported oven fire. This time the members responded to a residence on Spring Valley Road. Car 201 staffed by Asst. Chief burns established command and held the response to 1 and 1. After a quick vent and checking for extension, all units took up.

    Oradell members responded to 3 alarms today. The last of which brought them to The Reformed Church of Oradell. After receiving an automatic fire alarm from the church, Oradell Police responding to the call reported smoke coming from the church. Oradell Car 201 staffed by Asst. Chief Burns responded and established command. Oradell Police Officer Anthony Foschino who was on scene located a small chair on fire in a church office and put the fire out with his extinguisher. The chair was removed by the PD while units were responding. Oradell Engine 23, Tower 21 and Engine 24 checked for extension and set up a vent for a moderate smoke condition.

    A new challenge has swept the firehouse! What is now known simply as "Stairclimbers" has members trying to beat their record as well as other members. Each member, dressed in full firefighting gear, SCBA (air-pack), and carrying 200 feet of hose, which all weighs over 100 pounds, attempts to climb 19 steps and then descend as many times as possible.

    00:08hrs - Oradell units responded to Cool Beans on Kinderkamack Road for a report of smoke in the building. Upon arrival, C-20 (Staffed by Chief Gangemi) found a light smoke condition on the first floor. Engine 23 and Tower Ladder 21 performed searches on the 1st floor and found a crockpot that had been left on that was burning its cord and the counter top below. Natural vent cleared the smoke. No extension was found. All units were clear at 00:39hrs

    Oradell Dive Team Units responded this morning to the City of Newark for a vehicle that left the road and went into the Passiac River. One member from Oradell's team entered the water to assist in recovery efforts. This is the second time in five months that Oradell Dive Team units were deployed to this location.

    Tower 21 was 1st due ladder truck to 3 back to back Tri-boro alarms today. Responding to New Milford High School, River Dell Middle School and New Milford High School again. The Super Fast Truck and its crew actually made it into all 3 alarms and searched for the cause. River Edge Chief 10 was command at all 3 alarms - thanks for not returning us.

    CONGRATULATIONS to past Junior Firefighter Tim Mahon. Tim will graduate from the FDNY Fire Academy today 3/7/05 after working in NYC as an EMT/Paramedic for the past few years. Tim is famous in Oradell for his role as Mrs. McGuillcuty during the Oradell Fire 100th anniversary in 1997. Tim was known as "Trench" around the Firehouse, because he loved to wear his tan trench coat and his Converse sneakers. GOOD LUCK Tim and STAY SAFE.

    While returning from the oven fire on Woodland Avenue, Oradell Tower 21 and Car 201 responded to 762 Kinderkamack Road in River Edge for a FAST Team request. River Edge Fire units reported a chimney fire with extension. Oradell units acted as the FAST Team and assited with roof operations. Oradell Engine 23 which was on stand-by at OFD HQ was called to the scene for additional manpower. All Oradell units were clear at 19:10


    March 4th, 2005
    Oradell units were dispatched to a kitchen fire today at 16:41 on Woodland Avenue. Car 201 staffed by Asst Chief Burns responded and established command. Oradell Police units reported the fire was contained to the oven and knocked it down with a dry chem provided by the homeowner. Oradell Engine 23 and Tower 21 responded. Units checked for extenstion and vented. A pair of scissors with plastic handles were left in the oven by accident causing the fire. All units were clear at 17:04.

    March has arrived and brought a long night of snow - all schools in Oradell closed.

    Feburary 25th, 2005
    At 15:22 Oradell units were dispatched to a report of smoke coming from an apartment at 1 Kinderkamack Road. Upon arrival Car 201 staffed by Capt. Kahill established command. River Edge Chief 101 (D. Stuckie) was around the corner at the time of alarm and also responded. Chief Stuckie reported to Capt. Kahill that there was smoke coming from a locked apartment in the building. Chief Stuckie forced the door with Oradell Police and located a semi-conscious victim. Chief Stuckie removed the victim to the outside where she was treated by Oradell Police until New Milford EMS arrived with ALS from Pascack Valley Hospital. Oradell Engine 23 and Tower 21 responded and found a burning pot on the stove. Crews checked for extension and vented. One other resident of the building was treated and released at the scene. All units were up at 16:03


    February 14th, 2005
    13:15 hrs: The Oradell Police Department receives an automatic fire alarm for an address on Phyllis Lane in Oradell. Police and fire units were dispatched to this address. Upon arrival of the police, they found smoke showing from the structure. The first fire department unit on scene was Car 201, which was staffed by Captain Kahill. Upon initial size up, it was determined that the fire had extended from its origin in the garage to the attic and further resources were going to be required. The bulk of the fire was knocked down by 13:56hrs and units picked up from scene at 16:48hrs.

    The end of January marked another sad time for the FDNY as the department laid three of its members to rest, after they gave the ultimate sacrafice. May they rest in peace.

    During the winter storm, fire department members were on standby from approximately 9am on Saturday through 7am on Sunday. Although no units responded to any fire related emergencies, Asst. Chief Burns along with a crew in Utility 25 responded with New Milford Ambulance to a medical call on Mildred Place.

    Department members along with the Records Officer met with the NJ State Fire Marshals Office this evening to discuss the proper ways for reporting fire statistics to the state. These statistics are then compiled with all other states at a federal level to see current fire trends across the country.

    11:54hrs - Oradell Units responded to 600 Kinderkamack Road – Oradell Health Care for a reported fire. Upon arrival, Chief 20 advised that there was a fire in the trash compactor in the rear of the structure. Engine 23 stretched in from the hydrant and then stretched 1 line to attack the fire. Upon arrival of other units, they assisted in the overhaul of the debris removed from the compactor. Oradell Fire units were assisted by the New Milford and River Edge Fire Department's due to the type of occupancy at this location. Units operated on scene for approximately 2 hours. This fire is still under investigation.
