Busy 24 hours of ChristmasOradell Fire units responded to 6 calls in the 24 hours of Christmas Eve and Day. The OFD had food on the stove and two false alarms on the 24th. On the 25th OFD responded to assist the OPD with a lift, another burnt food call and finally a FAST Team call into Emerson, for a fire in a nursing facility. For all those members that made the trip each time the whistle blew, Thank you and Happy Holidays. STAY SAFE from OIT.



December 22nd, 2006 Mutual Aid to ParamusAt 14:25 Oradell Tower 21 was dispatched to CO#4 in Paramus for a stand-by. Paramus units were operating at a house fire on East Ridgewood Avenue. Car 20 responded to the scene while Car 201 headed to CO#4 also. Oradell units enjoyed the mad rush Holiday traffic as they made their way through Paramus, passing many other units responding to the scene. Ho Ho Ho.
December 21st, 2006 Chief Welcomes Home Cousin From Iraq - Sgt. Louis GoliaChief Gangemi would like to welcome home his cousin, Sgt. Louis G. Golia of the Army's 947th Engineer Company after serving 14 months in Iraq. Sgt. Golia, formally from Denville now residing in Colorado, was welcomed home by friends, family, and Senator Anthony Bucco who presented Sgt. Golia with a state senate proclamation. Welcome home!

December 20th, 2006 Double Tri-Boro Alarm Assignment in New MilfordOradell Fire units were dispatched at 08:45 hours as part of the Tri-Boro Alarm Assignment for two simultaneous alarms at both the Woodcrest Center in New Milford and the Yeshiva School in River Edge. Oradell Tower 21, Engine 24, and Car 201 made their response to the Yeshiva School. Units were shortly returned and were BIQ at 08:59 hours.
December 19th, 2006 Roll Over on Merritt DrAt 16:01 hours, Engine 24 and Squad 22 responded to a reported motor vehicle crash on Merritt Drive. Arriving units found 1 over turned car. A 1-3/4" protection line was stretched as the car was made safe for the tow truck.


December 16th, 2006 Annual Holiday DinnerMembers and Guests attended the annual Holiday Dinner tonight. The 2007 officers were announced, which remains the same. Chief Gangemi handed out several service awards and as always Santa handed out the real awards.



December 14th, 2006 NJAWRS - Holdiay GatheringThe Fire Department Dive Units that make up the North Jersey Association of Water Rescue Specialists gathered in Wallington tonight to celebrate the Holidays. The Teams had a regular meeting with a tour of Wallington’s new Dive Truck. The night ended with all the Teams being First Due to a "smoke in the house" call across the street, since they didn't need SCUBA, we just watched.


December 14th, 2006 Crash with a spillAt 17:15 Oradell units were dispatched to Kinderkamack Road and Soldier Hill road for a 2 car crash. Car 20, Engine 24 and Engine 23 responded. Units made both vehicles safe and controlled a large fluid leak. Units operated about 15 minutes.

December 11th, 2006 Methane Gas in the HouseAt 17:30 hours, Oradell Fire units were dispatched to the 800 block Demarrais Place for a Carbon Monoxide alarm. Fire department gas meters detected 4% methane in the home caused by a faulty gas appliance. 1 occupant was treated by EMS and released. A full box was transmitted for this address bringing Oradell Engine 23, Engine 24, Squad 22, and a special call for River Edge Ladder 11. Units operated on scene for about 1 hour.
December 8th, 2006 Early Morning Wake up call to Woodcrest Health Care Center in New MilfordApproximately 150 Tri-boro firefighters and ambulance members from 3 towns were dispatched this morning, at 0628 hours, to a reported structure fire in the on-site laundry facility at New Milford's Woodcrest Health Center. FD Units arriving first to the scene were encountered with a light smoke condition in the basement. Units quickly located the source of the smoke, determined to be a poorly maintained belt on the Center's HVAC system. All units were released after operating on scene for 25 minutes. The Woodcrest Center is home to approximately 230 residents not including full time staff. In extreme temperatures such as this morning (near 20F) evacuations would have been difficult, luckily none of the residents had to be relocated due to the smoke condition. 23-Engine, 24-Engine and Car 201 responded to the call.
December 3rd, 2006 Holiday Tree LightingThe OFD helped bring Santa to town tonight for the annual Holiday Tree Lighting at town hall. The night was a bit of a disaster when Santa was stopped for operating his sleigh while talking on a cell phone. Santa and two of his elves were processed quickly before being released. Ho Ho Ho.....

November 27th, 2006 Back-to-Back Runs at Boro HallStarting at 10:20 hours, Oradell Engine 23 and Tower 21 responded back to back to the Boro Hall for a smell of something burning in the building and a water leak. Units checked the entire building along with HVAC units on the roof.

November 27th, 2006 Tri-Boro Response to Oradell HealthcareA Tri-Boro Alarm was transmitted at 06:32 hours for an odor of something burning at 600 Kinderkamack Rd, Oradell Healthcare, in Oradell. Engine 23 performed a visual search of the area, but nothing was showing. NM Engine 32 assisted Engine 23 and Tower 21 on the 2nd floor with the Thermal Imaging Camera while RE Ladder 11 checked the HVAC units on the roof. Tri-Boro Units operated on scene for about 30 minutes. The cause was unfounded.
November 25th, 2006 Another GREAT Wallington Holiday ParadeCongratulations to all the members who worked on the float and other vehicles for the Wallington Holiday Parade. The OFD took home First Place for "Best Lighted / Decorated Special Unit" - The Dive Truck.

November 20th, 2006 High Angle Ropes Drill in ParamusTower 21 attended a high angle ropes drill tonight in Paramus along with the Paramus Fire Dept and Rescue Squad. Members reviewed the "Z-Rig" setup procedures along with knots and stokes basket operations.
November 19th, 2006 Neptune Pumping System DemoOradell units attended a special drill today at the United Water Plant in Haworth where the Neptune Pumping System along with the Iron Man nozzles were being setup for a demo. The Neptune Pumping System is an integrated, modular, mobile pumping system that supplies 5,000 gpm at 150 psi from open water sources without the need to pump from draft. Neptune can be located up to 50 ft. above the water source at distances up to 150 ft.


November 18th, 2006 Reported Chimney FireAt 17:25hrs, Oradell units were alerted of a possible chimney fire on Maple Ave. Arriving units found that the damper had not been opened and the smoke from the fire was filling up the house. Tower 21 provided lighting and negative pressure vent. The engine companies assisted with the extinguishment and removal of the contents from the fireplace. The Thermal Imaging Camera was used to check for extension on the 2nd floor and walls near the fireplace. Car 20, Tower 21, Engine 24, and Engine 23 were on scene for about 45 minutes.
November 4th, 2006 Annual Inspection DinnerLast night the Oradell Fire Department hosted their Annual Inspection and Dinner. This gives an opportunity to the Mayor and Council to come and inspect the troops and equipment.


October 31st, 2006 Oradell Takes in Apartment FireCar 201, Engine 24, Tower 21, and Tri-Boro Mutual Aid Car 2 were dispatched to the apartments on Reichelt Road in New Milford for a working fire. Engine 24 stretched in from a hydrant and stretched 1 precautionary attack line to the fire apartment. The Super FAST Truck (Tower 21) stood by on scene as the FAST Team. Units were up from the scene after 45 minutes. Oradell FD's photo unit also took in the job.


October 29th, 2006 Windy WeekendAnother large tree down with wires burning kept the OFD busy this morning. Units were on scene about 45 minutes unitl the power was cut and the affected houses were checked.

October 20th, 2006 Tri-Boro Fire in River EdgeIn the early afternoon REFD requested a Tri-boro 2nd alarm for a fire on Kinderkamack Road. The fire appeared to be extending upon arrival. Oradell responded with C201, Tower 21, Engine 23 and Engine 24. REFD units made a quick knock down, while Oradell and New Milford units assisted with overhaul and search duties.



October 17th, 2006 Passing of Alfred CaputiThe Oradell Fire Department regrets to announce the passing of Exempt / Life Member Alfred P. Caputi. Al was a member from 1950 to 1977. Al was well known to the members during the annual convention in Wildwood, he will be missed.
October 17th, 2006 The Squad gets a liftAfter an electrical fire under the dash of the Squad last week, the rig has been out of serivce. The damage required that the rig be towed out for service. Thanks to John Tumino and Tumino's Towing for giving us a lift.


October 12th, 2006 Fire Prevention Week at the SchoolsDepartment members spent the last two days at local schools conducting fire drills, giving presentations, and touring the apparatus with the students. Remember to "Watch What You Heat" and join us at our Open House, Friday at 6pm.

October 7th, 2006 Northern Valley Fire Chiefs Parade: Best Overall Guest and LadderIn honor of New Milford FD's 100th Anniversary, they will be hosting the Northern Valley Fire Chiefs Parade. Oradell attended as a special guest with Old Moe, which carried the Grand Marshal, the 1903 Seagrave Hose Cart, Engine 23 and Tower 21. While out of service at the parade, Garfield Engine 5 along with Paramus Tower 1 will be covering the Boro. In the end Oradell took home trophies for Best Overall Guest and Best Ladder Guest.



September 28th, 2006 The OFD Hits Local Cable Channel 77Tonight members of the OFD Office of Information Technology, filmed a Public Service Announcement that will air on local cable channel 77 in Oradell. The PSA is a reminder to all viewers to regularly test their smoke detectors, and "Watch What They Heat"! The OFD will continue to produce other content in the future. Stay Tuned! September 25th, 2006 Drill Drill DrillTonight's monthly drill included multiple stations around town. Crews surveyed both the Oradell Public School and the River Dell High School construction, performed large area search, and fire attack.

September 18th, 2006 Business As UsualMembers tonight tested their smoke training unit in quarters along with the firehouse fire alarm system. Haworth Ex-Chief Ken Kiel said "I turned the corner and saw smoke coming out of your firehouse. Can I have an application?"

September 17th, 2006 The Circus Came To Town...1st Due to New MilfordThanks to all the members that stood by for today's two Circus shows. Pictured are the crew from Engine 24 - does anyone else see the similarity between Stan and the clown? Also, as units were picking up from this detail, a Tri-Boro Alarm was transmitted in the Boro of New Milford for the odor of something burning in the 200 block of Prospect Ave. Engine 24 and Tower 21 were the first arriving units and were assigned to the investigation. Crews found the problem to be with a faulty florescent ballast.

September 17th, 2006 Another Great Convention in WildwoodThe delegates and life members returned today after attending the 129th annual convention in Wildwood NJ. Those that attended had a great time, thanks to those who stayed back. *One side note* After a friendly 5 on 5 game of two hand touch - some members may be out on injured reserve - score 35 to 14.


September 12th, 2006 FAST Team to ParamusAfter responding to a gas call and industrial accident already today, Oradell units were dispatched at 19:13 to Paramus as a FAST Team for a large fire in a diner. September 11th, 2006 On The Road To RecoveryCrash survivor Jeremy W. returned to the OFD tonight to say thank you, and we were pleased to see he was doing well. Jeremy was the victim of a serious motor vehicle crash on May 27th, 2006 in Oradell. Using the Hurst rescue tool system the OFD assisted by the River Edge Fire Department worked to remove Jeremy from his vehicle. His injuries included a broken jaw, broken clavicle, 2 punctured lungs, a broken pallet, a broken pelvic bone (in 3 places) and many, many more. Jeremy and his family returned tonight to say thank you and provided dinner to the membership. THANK YOU JEREMY.

September 10th, 2006 Old Moe and the Foam go to River EdgeOradell FD along with other units from the Tri-Boro South Mutual Aid Group responded today to the River Edge FD Wetdown at Co. # 2 to welcome their new 2006 Pierce Saber Pumper. Along with Engine 24, Squad 22, and the Hi-X Foam Unit, Old Moe, our 1928 American LaFrance Pumper also made an appearance and flowed some water.


September 2nd, 2006 Oradell Meets A Little ErnestoToday the OFD and other FD units in the area spent several hours responding to numerous storm related calls. Units had numerous live power lines down as well as several trees into homes and cars. During an 8 hour period the OFD responded to 23 calls for service.



September 2nd, 2006 Hi-Ex Foam Requested to Saddle River House FireAt 2:30AM the Oradell Hi-Ex Foam Unit was requested to Saddle River for a large house fire. Car 20, Car 201, Engine 23 and the Foam Trailer responded. Saddle River had two very long 5" supply lines set up to feed the Engines on scene. The fire caused a major collapse of the first floor, making entry unsafe. The crew had to remove the Foam Unit from the trailer and carry it by hand to the rear yard. The Foam Unit was operated into the basement, which we filled up nicely. The Foam continued into the first floor and out the front windows. Units were on scene 4 hours.


September 1st, 2006 Smoke in the BuildingOradell Fire Dispatch received a 9-1-1 call for a smoke condition in the 400 block of Kinderkamack Road in Oradell. Engine 23 was the first arriving unit and was advised of a heavy smoke condition in the building. A Tri-Boro alarm was requested since the Tower was out of town covering Ramsey. Tri-Boro Units assisted Oradell with search and ventilation of the building. The source of the smoke condition was from a mechanical pump in the Elevator Room.
September 1st, 2006 Ramsey Cover-UpOradell Tower along with units from Suffern, Waldwick, and Fair Lawn made up the Tisdale Task Force in Ramsey to assist the Ramsey FD covering their east side of town during the funeral of fallen FDNY firefighter Michael Reilly. Rest in peace Brothers.

August 28th, 2006 Practice All The TimeTonights Department Drill had members in a variety of places. Engine 23 and Tower 21 did a walk through of the Oradell Public School which is currently under construction. Engine 24 and crew were pumping and flowing water while Squad 22 was cutting a car up. SCUBA 26 filled out the night by sending two divers into the Oradell Reservoir.


August 27th, 2006 Smell of GasAt 14:38 units were dispatched for a smell of gas at an apartment building on Kinderkamack Road. Upon arrival PD and FD units confirmed a strong gas / sulfur smell in the basement. Oradell Car 20, Car 201, Engine 23, Engine 24 and Tower 21 responded. After further investigation command called New Milford Haz-Mat 36 for assistance. The source of the odor is believed to have come from a near-by sewer main. After venting and re-checking the structure all units took up. Units were on scene over an hour.


August 26th, 2006 A Little Rain - A Little Food and Lots of FoamThe OFD had its annual picnic today. The weather didn't put too much of a dent in the day. The Home Of The Foam - even foamed itself. For a good time call us, 9-1-1. Oh yeah, we also had some time to spread some foam in Montvale for their new tower ladder.



August 26th, 2006 Fire in the OvenOradell units turned out this morning for a fire in an oven in the 300 block of Maple Ave. Arriving units found a light smoke condition on the 1st and 2nd floors and no extension from the oven. The engine company secured the utilities to the oven and removed the smoldering debris while the tower company setup a positive pressure vent. Units were on scene for about 30 min.
August 22nd, 2006 Motorcycle FireEngine 23 responded to a reported motorcycle fire today. Upon arrival the Engine reported the fire was out. The crew disconnected the battery before taking up. The owner had been riding the bike at the time of the fire but was able to escape any injury.

August 21st, 2006 2 Car Crash With ExtricationAt 00:19 hours Oradell units responded to Forest Ave. and Oradell Ave. for a crash with a pin job. Oradell Car 201, Squad 22, Engine 23 and Engine 24 responded. The Squad used the Hurst tool to pop the drivers door on one vehicle, while other crews made the vehicles safe and stretched a hose line as a precaution. Two victims were treated and transported by ALS and BLS. Units were on scene for about 40 minutes. Thanks to Chris Saraceno (Metro 465) for the pictures.

August 19th, 2006 Get Well Brother ! and Loosen Up !While operating at a gas leak this morning, FF Farinella suffered a muscular related back injury. Members on scene stood by while he was treated by BLS and transported. Several members have speculated that his injury was actually caused by the stress from his duties as acting President of the Department. OFD Safety Officer Lt. Nywening is pictured with FF. Farinella upon his discharge. Remember to Stretch next time !

August 15th, 2006 Single Car RolloverAt 14:07 units were dispatched to the intersection of Wildwood Road and Birchtree Lane for a rollover. Squad 22 and Engine 24 responded with Lt. Nywening establishing command. The Squad pulled up to a single car rollover with no entrapment. The Squad stretched 1 hose line as a precaution while the vehicle was being turned over and made safe. Units were on scene about 40 minutes.

August 12th, 2006 Fireworks and a CrashWhile Oradell Engine 24 was standing by in New Milford for a fireworks display, Oradell units were dispatched to a crash on Kinderkamack Road. Oradell Squad 22 responded and controlled fluid spills and made the vehicles safe. Squad 22 was back in service by 20:10

August 1st, 2006 Hot, Hazy and SparkingAt 11:04 FD units were dispatched for a sparking outlet on Windsor Road. PD units confirmed the outlet was smoking and the wall was scorched. Oradell Engine 24 responded and soft suctioned the hydrant across the street. River Edge FD was requested for assistance and responded with Ladder 11, Engine 12 and Chief 101. Oradell Squad 22 also responded and stood by. Units opened the wall to check for extension and used the thermal imaging camera, all checks were negative. Units were on scene about 35 minutes. With temperatures exceeding 100 degrees today, manpower was spent quickly.
July 25th, 2006 Smokey Double HeaderUnits responded at 10:58 hours to Country Club Drive for an electrical outlet on fire. The first arriving units found fire showing and were able remove the hazard after shutting off power to that outlet. While on-scene, units were alerted of a smoke condition in a commercial occupancy in the 600 block of Kinderkamack Road. Oradell Dispatch transmitted a Tri-Boro alarm for this location as Oradell units were still operating at the Country Club location. River Edge Ladder 11 found the source of the smoke condition to be coming from an A/C unit on the roof.
July 19th, 2006 Smell of Smoke - Grove St.At: 3:14AM after the storm had passed units were dispatched to a house on Grove Street for a smell of something burning in the basement. Upon arrival units confirmed an odor in the basement and proceeded to check the house. During a search of the outside, members located a shorted air conditioning compressor that had been effected by a lighting strike. Members searched the house with the thermal imaging camera and were unable to locate any other effected equipment. After making the AC unit safe all units were up at 5:AM.
July 18th, 2006 Storm Moves Through TownAt 22:26 hours on Tuesday, Oradell Dispatch began receiving calls for storm related emergencies. Initial units responded for a tree into a building in the 200 block of Kinderkamack Road and wires down on a car with a person trapped, then proceeded to respond to multiple fire alarms, multiple reports of wires down, and numerous good intent calls. Captain Kahill was serving as the Boro Wide Tour Commander for these alarms. A total of 15 alarms were answered by the OFD during this event. All units became available around 01:15 hours on Wednesday.

July 10th, 2006 TWO FOR THE PRICE OF ONEAt 15:30 hours Oradell Car 20 and Squad 2 responded to a 3 car motor vehicle crash on Marginal Road. The Squad provided EMS, made the vehicles safe and stood by until EMS treated and transported. While operating at this call another run came in reporting wires burning on Beechwood Road. Oradell Engine 3 responded and confirmed a tree branch had fallen into a primary wire. PSE&G was notified while the crew from Engine 3 made the area safe. All units were clear from both calls by 16:10

July 8th, 2006 Roll Over - No PinAt 17:21 hours, Squad 2, Engine 3, and Engine 4 responded to the intersection of Ridgewood Ave. and Prospect Ave for a motor vehicle crash with a rollover. 203 (Acting 201) responded and assumed command. Engine 4 stretched 1 line for protection while Squad 2 operated the Jaws to reach the engine compartment. The Squad and Engine companies secured the vehicles and assisted EMS. Units operated on scene for 1 hour.

July 6th, 2006 Transformer Explosion in River EdgeAt 18:02 hours, Engine 3 and Tower 1 were special called to the 800 block of Kinderkamack Road in River Edge to assist at the scene of multiple fires. A transformer in the area had exploded knocking down primary wires. Vehicles near the downed wire eventually caught fire as well and after the fire had burned through the street, a gas line was struck and the fire became "gas fed." Smoke from the fire had also traveled back through pipes creating smoke conditions in near by homes. Units awaited for PSEG to secure the scene before extinguishing the fires and checking for extension in near by stores and apartments. Oradell units operated on scene for 1 hour and 30 minutes. July 4th, 2006 Independence DayToday members celebrated July 4th by marching in the Oradell Independence Day Parade. The Officers and Members of the Oradell Volunteer Fire Department are proud of our armed forces here at home and overseas. Thank you for all you do and stay safe.


June 26th, 2006 Tri-Boro Drill in REEngine 4, Tower 1, & Car 201 responded tonight to the Cherry Hill School in River Edge for a Tri-Boro Drill. The Engine company stretched an attack line to the second floor and performed a search. The Tower company operated on the roof and performed a search on the fire floor. June 23rd, 2006 Knights of Columbus Award Presented to Captain KahillIn honor of his hard work and dedication, Captain Derek Kahill was presented with an award from the Knights of Columbus for his outstanding achievement for work on the department's Dive/Rescue Vehicle.

June 15th, 2006 Car FireAt 10:10 hours units reponded to the intersection of Oradell Ave. and Cordes Ct. for a reported car fire. Arriving units found a car on fire and were able to knock down the fire quickly.
June 14th, 2006 Flashover TrainingLast night 14 members participated in Flashover Training at the Bergen County Law and Public Safety Institute. Members were able to gain a better understanding of the symptoms and conditions that create flashover.

June 12th, 2006 More Black ShieldsCongratulations to FF. Ghost Rider & FF. T. Fahey on receiving their black shields.

June 12th, 2006 Oradell Ave - Motor Vehicle CrashAt 16:17 Units were dispatched to Oradell Avenue for a 2 car crash with one vehicle off the road. Squad 22 stabilized the vehicle and assisted EMS while the injured victim was removed. Units were on scene about 45 minutes.

June 11th, 2006 Mutual Aid to River Edge - Smoke ConditionAt 13:14 hrs, Tower 21 and Engine 23 were special called to the 600 block of Kinderkamack Road for a heavy smoke condition in a large unoccupied school. Units assited Engine 13 with getting their engine back in service before returning to the boro.
June 11th, 2006 CongratulationsFF Jeff Kaplan took Third Place in the Fire Engineering Strategy and Tactics test given as part of the NY/NJ competition this year. Good job Jeff on your Major Award!
June 9th, 2006 Another Extrication in Front of HeadquartersAt 16:01 hrs, Squad 22 and Engine 24 were dispatched to the intersection of Kinderkamack Rd and Center St. (in front of HQ) for a reported motor vehicle crash with entrapment. Members opened one car door using the Jaws. Units operated on scene for about 30min.
June 3rd, 2006 ROBERT SINGLETONIt is with deep regret that the Oradell Fire Department announces the passing of Exempt Life Member Robert Singleton. June 2nd, 2006 Phone, Cable, and High Voltage BurningAt 16:01 hours, Engine 23, Squad 22, and Car 201 responded to a report of wires burning a the intersection of Spring Valley Road and Howard Court West. Arriving units found the high-voltage, phone, and cable lines burning in a tree. Once the scene was secure, Engine 23 extinguished the fire still burning in the tree. Units were up after 2 hours.

June 1st, 2006 Contractors Cut Gas LineAt 09:12 hrs, Car 20, Engine 23, and Squad 22 responded on a reported natural gas leak in the 400 block of Oradell Ave. Ariving units found that contractors had cut through the natural gas line while installing a lawn sprinkler syster. Crews gained entry to the home and secured the gas meter while PSEG secured the service. Units operated on scene for about 45 min.
May 30th, 2006 Troop 36 Eagle ProjectUnder the sponsorship of Chief David Gangemi, United Water Company, Life Scout Chris Meo and Troop 36 Scouts refurbished the 255 fire hydrants in town as part of their Eagle Project.

May 28th, 2006 Back to Back Gas LeaksAt 10:10 units responded to a home on Delford Avenue for a gas leak. C201, E23, T21 and E24 responded and reported readings of 4 & 5% gas in the house. The utilities were shut off, PSEG was called and the house was vented. While on scene command was alerted for another gas leak at a home on Kinderkamack Road. C201, E23 and E24 responded and reported 3% gas readings in the basement. The leak was located near a dryer, PSEG was called and the house was vented. All units from both scenes were back in service at 11:40.
May 27th, 2006 Single Car MVC With One TrappedAt 5:49am Oradell units were alerted for a car off Kinderkamack Road by The Burns & Roe building. Oradell Car 201, Squad 22, Engine 23 and Engine 24 responded. Upon arrival Car 201 confirmed one victim was trapped in the vehicle and the vehicle was smoking. Squad 22 arrived and started to set-up while Engine 23 arrived and stretched a protection line. Car 201 special called River Edge Rescue 16 as a precaution based on the severity of the crash. Oradell units operated with River Edge for about 25 minutes until the victim was removed and transported. Oradell units were released after the car was removed; command was terminated at 7:25am.



May 24th, 2006 Fire in a Light PoleAt 20:21hrs, Engine 23, Tower 21, and Car 201 were dispatched to a reported light pole on fire behind Badland Tacos on Kinderkamack Road. Arriving units found a birds nest which had caught fire inside the light fixture. The engine company was able to knock down the fire while the truck company performed overhaul. Units were up from the scene after 30 min.
May 21st, 2006 High AnglesOradell units participated today in River Edge FD's Special Operations Drill. Marine 1 along with members from SCUBA 26, & Tower 21 acted as the Water Safety Sector, as RE units prepared and operated their rigging across the Hackensack River. May 18th, 2006 All Hitched UpThanks to Lt. VanRiper and FF B. Koth for welding the trailer hitch onto SCUBA 26 today. Plescia roofing of Oradell was kind enough to loan us their shop and welder for the job.
May 13th, 2006 FAST Team to New MilfordAt 19:44 Oradell Tower 21 was requested to Lacey Drive in New Milford as a FAST Team. NMFD was on scene with a fire on the outside of the house extending to the attic. Tower 21 and Car 20 responded and stood by about 30 minutes. May 11th, 2006 3rd Alarm in DumontAt 10:18hrs, Engine 24 was dispatched to Dumont on the 3rd Alarm assignment. Engine 24 stood by at Co#1 on Madison Ave. for about 1 hour before being released. Utility-25 staffed by Mutual Aid Coordinator J. Kaplan responded directly to the scene.

May 6th, 2006 Home of the Foam Goes to RutherfordFoam Unit 1 attended the Tripple Wetdown in Rutherford today. This was the Foam Unit's first appearance for the season and certainly will not be our last!

May 3rd, 2006 Live Burn Drill...In MahwahEngine 24 along with C-201 trained this evening in a "Live Burn" environment at the Bergen County Fire Academy. Members practiced search and hose advancement in a live fire situation. It got pretty hot and everyone came out ok!

May 2nd, 2006 Gas Leak...Just Around The CornerAt 13:30 units were dispatched to Center Street across from the Firehouse for a high pressure gas leak. A PSE&G vent stack had been struck by a vehicle causing the leak. Some business's were evacuated until the gas company secured the leak. Units were on scene about 45 minutes.
April 30th, 2006 Car vs. TreeAt 10:32 hours Squad 22 and Chief 201 responded to a car into a tree. The injured driver was not trapped and was treated by New Milford BLS and Holy Name ALS. Squad 22 disconnected the battery and stood by while the driver was loaded. Units were on scene about 20 minutes.

April 29th, 2006 Sweeping Up at Fire HeadquartersMembers celebrated another Devils playoff win against the NY Rangers.

April 28th, 2006 Car vs. MotorcycleAt 13:26 OFD responded for an MVA involving a motorcycle. Oradell Chief 201 and Squad 22 responded. Members contained a small fuel spill and secured the vehicle. Units operated about 20 minutes.

April 27th, 2006 F.A.S.T. Team to New MilfordAt 16:11 hours Oradell FD was requested to Pleasant Dr. in New Milford as a FAST Team. NMFD was on scene with a heavy smoke condition in a basement and stretching in. While responding 21 Truck was re-assigned as the 1st due truck and Bergenfield was called for another FAST Team. Upon arrival 21 took the front of the structure and assisted with search, vent and lighting. Chief 20 and 201 also responded. Oradell units were on scene about 90 minutes. April 26th, 2006 Deuce and a HalfTraining continued tonight for the newest Probie Firefighter, C. Harris, who practiced operating hose lines of various sizes as well as master streams. Assistance and advice was given by Probationary Firefighter T. Fahey along with Firefighters J. Moretti and J. Gothelf.

April 24th, 2006 Training Continues...Dry Hydrant at DamTonight units trained at the newly installed dry hydrant at the Oradell Dam. Units setup hard suction and drafted while operating master streams.


April 18th, 2006 Firefighter Kevin ApuzzioMembers attended the funeral today for fallen firefighter Kevin Apuzzio of the East Franklin Fire Department who was killed in the line of duty. Rest In Peace Brother.

April 17th, 2006 Kitchen Fire in New Milford ... 201 Goes to DenverTower 21, Car 20, Car 202 (Acting 201) responded in the Boro of New Milford for a reported kitchen fire. Tower 21 operated on the scene as the FAST team for 30 min before returning to the boro.

April 9th, 2006 OFD Sluggers off to a rough startAnother loss today as the OFD Sluggers faced Franklin Lakes FD. The team worked hard to come back later in the game, but loss 14 to 13. Coach Zuendt stated "If this keeps up, I will continue to throw my bat!"
April 2nd, 2006 Softball Time AgainThe OFD Sluggers opened up the season with an 8 to 6 loss against Saddle Brook today. Although the game was a loss a healthy turnout of players kept the staff busy. Pictured below is the team photo and the fabulous 4 (A. Trass, P. Trass, G. Trass and K. Trass)

March 30th, 2006 Tri-Boro Drill - ExplosionAt 19:35hrs, Oradell Tower 21 responded in the Boro of New Milford to the Berkley St. School for a Tri-Boro Drill. Tower 21 was assigned as the "FAST Truck" and shortly after arriving on scene was put to work checking for extension in the North Wing of the school. The Tower operating on scene for about 1 hour before returning to the Boro.
March 23rd, 2006 Blast From the PastIn 1988, units responded to the 700 block of Lotus Ave for a reported fire, which is the home of current Fire Commissioner J. Murray. E-22 was first due and Photo Unit 1 happened to have responded as well...

March 22nd, 2006 Working Car FireAt 06:12 hours E-23, E-24, & C-201 responded on a reported car fire at the NJ Transit Bus Garage. C-201 (Staffed by Asst. Chief Burns) arrived on scene, established command, and confirmed the working fire. E-23 arrived on scene and stretched 1 1-3/4" handline and knocked down the fire. An addition line was stretched as the protection line. The rest of the crew from E-23 and from E-24 performed overhaul on the vehicle. Units operated for about 30 minutes before returning to fire duty.

March 20th, 2006 Members Visit the Windy CityOFD members recently traveled to Chicago where they met with FF/EMT G. Paylor of Truck 3. This firehouse also houses an engine that is capable of providing water to the upper most floors of the Sears Tower.

March 12th, 2006 Another Hockey MomentTonight OFD season ticket holders posed with NY Rangers Great and NHL Hall of Famer ROD GILBERT before the game. We gave Rod a lesson is showing off his ring.

March 10th, 2006 It's Friday - It's 70 Degrees and The Bridge is ClosedThe Elm Street Bridge was closed today until repairs can be made to a section of decking that broke. The bridge deck lifted up hitting the underside of vehicle on the bridge. Oradell Engine 23 was called later in the day to fill the road blocks with water.
March 9th, 2006 Another Probie Gets Ticket To RideProbationary Firefighter C. Harris completed his grueling two hour truck exam this evening demonstrating his knowledge of the apparatus and its equipment. In other news, SCUBA-26 was outfitted this evening with a stokes basket.


March 8th, 2006 SCUBA Truck 26 Goes On 1st RunAt 4:13am the OFD Dive UNIT was dispatched to Rutherford, NJ to back-up Lyndhurst and Wallington Dive Units. SCUBA Truck 26 although not fully completed, went on the run with Car 20, Car 29, Utility 25 and Marine 1. Oradell units returned to service shortly after 9am after multiple members operated in the water.


March 6th, 2006 Training Continues...Tonight 20 members went to the Bergen County Fire Academy for live fire training. Crews practiced Fire Attack, Search and Arial operations.



March 2nd, 2006 ODOR OF GASAt 11:44 units were dispatched to 555 Kinderkamack Rd. for a strange odor in the building. Car 20 setup command and Car 201 had operations. Engine 23, Tower 21 and Utility 25 responded. The Tower was sent to the roof while the Engine investigated inside. Persons inside the building initially reported feeling ill, but later refused medical treatment. Units operated about 1 hour checking all the building systems with no cause located.

February 25th, 2006 Dive Truck Coming AlongMembers of the Department spent all week working inside the Dive Truck. The walls and 110v wiring are almost complete. Today the truck is getting lettered and will be on the road soon.

February 11th, 2006 All Chained Up!Oradell firefighters began preparing for the snow storm this evening by chaining the Squad and putting snow shovels on all of the engines. We may not have Oradell FD: The Movie, but we do get snow, right Kentland?


February 6th, 2006 Hurst Tool Demo & DrillMembers drilled tonight on a donated car along with demo Hurst tools from State Line Fire & Safety.


February 3rd, 2006 A Very Wet MorningAt 05:30hrs units were dispatched to 297 Kinderkamack Road, Ronnie's Bagels, for an activated water flow alarm. Upon arrival units found an activated sprinkler in the rear of the store. The ladder company secured the sprinkler head while members from Engine Co. 24 secured the utilities and checked adjacent stores and offices. Units found no cause for activation and were in service from the scene at 06:25hrs.
January 31st, 2006 Car Fire - AlmostAfter a slow start this month, Oradell units finished the month out with a small car fire at River Dell High School. Upon arrival of Car 20 the fire was out and he ordered only one Engine to respond to disconnect the battery. Units were on scene only a few minutes.
January 26th, 2006 Dive Team Responds to River EdgeAt 21:30 hours Oradell FD units were dispatched to River Edge to assist the River Edge FD at the Steuben House on New Bridge Landing where there was a report of a person who jumped into the river. Upon further investigation by the Oradell and River Edge fire units as well as by police, it was determined that no one had entered the water. Units were clear from the scene within 30 minutes. Aquatic Unit 22 was special called to the scene and then later released.


January 23rd, 2006 HAZMAT Ops Refresher and Black ShieldTonight's department drill consisted of HAZMAT Operations Review which was conducted by Oradell's Mutual Aid Coordinator Jeff Kaplan. Also tonight, FF A. Meo received his Black Shield after serving one year as a probationary firefighter.

January 21st, 2006 Wires Down On Grove StreetJust after clearing the motor vehicle crash, units were dispatched to Grove Street for wires down and burning. Oradell Engine 23 and 24 responded from the Firehouse, which was still blocked by tow trucks from the previous call. Upon arrival units found a large branch had pulled the electric service from a house. Units made the area safe, checked the house and called PSE&G. Units were on scene about 45 minutes
January 21st, 2006 CRASH IN FRONT OF FIRE HEADQUARTERS - 2 HURT & 1 PINNEDAt 18:48 hour’s members were toned out for a car crash in front of Fire Headquarters. Asst. Chief Burns arrived on scene and instructed Squad 22 to set-up for a door removal. New Milford BLS and Pascack Valley ALS treated and transported 2.


January 18th, 2006 High Winds Keep Everyone BusyBad weather swept across the area today keeping Oradell and other area towns busy. Oradell units turned out 3 times today due to weather related calls.
January 16th, 2006 The Dive Truck ReturnsThe new dive truck returned to the boro this afternoon after finishing its paint and body work. This evening members began the electric work on the truck. Nice black stripe!

January 13th, 2006 Cover Up at Paramus Co. # 1This evening Tower 21 along with Washington Township Engine 43 were assigned as Truck 1X and Engine 1X while Paramus FD units were out of service at a department function. Units turned out for 1 run, which turned out to be food on the stove. Units were released shortly after midnight. There was heavy fog in the area.

January 10th, 2006 OFD's New Mutual Aid CoordinatorCongratulations to Firefighter Jeff Kaplan who was appointed to the position of Mutual Aid Coordinator for the year 2006.
January 9th, 2006 New and Improved in 2006A slow start for the year with only 5 runs to date, however big things are already in store for 2006!
- At the close of 2005, the fire department replaced one of the command vehicles that allows for a chief officer to respond and operate efficiently at a fire scene.
- The line and administrative officers will remain the same for 2006 with a departmental recognition event this weekend.
- Later this month our donated dive truck will return freshly painted and ready for lighting and lettering to be done in house.
- Various training programs are already setup for later this year that will better educate firefighters when dealing with gas and electrical emergencies, as well as using foam in firefighting operations.
