On behalf of the Officers and Members of the Oradell Volunteer Fire Department, it is with the deepest regret and great sadness that we must announce the passing of our dear Friend, Ex-Chief and President of the Oradell Volunteer Fire Department Richard “Chip” Ryen.

After 2 years of treatment, Richard “Chip” Ryen, has succumbed to cancer at the age of 45. Chip has served with the Oradell Volunteer Fire Department for nearly two decades. During that time, Chip lead our department by serving as Fire Chief and Department President.

There are many heartwarming, funny and courageous stories to be told about Chip, as there should be for a man who touched so many lives.

We ask for your thoughts and prayers for Chips family at this time, also please take a moment to view some pictures of Chip and support his family by contributing to “The Chip Ryen Fund” by visiting: http://chipryenfund.oradellfire.org/

A Fireman's Prayer

When I am called to duty, God,
Whenever flames may rage;
Give me strength to save some life,
Whatever be its age.
Help me embrace a little child
Before it is too late
Or save an older person
From the horror of that fate.
Enable me to be alert
And hear the weakest shout,
And quickly and efficiently
To put the fire out.
I want to fill my calling
And to give the best in me
To guard my every neighbor
And protect his property.
And if, according to my fate,
I am to lose my life,
Please bless with your protecting
My children and my wife.
